How do I stop my cat from licking a shaved patch?

My cat was sick last week and had to have a patch of fur shaved from her chest for a blood sample to be taken. She is constantly licking the shaved patch and making it bigger. It looks inflamed and sore. How can we stop her from licking it so much?

Thats an image I found on Google, but on a dog.
There’s a creme that they dislike. You can find it in the pet stores.
Well no matter how someone answers this question, Im sure if you call your vet they will have the best suggestion for your cat.

I think the cats just not used to it but i would call the vet!
Especially if it looks sore..

get a cone to put around her head untill it heals
Go to PetsMart and get one of those ‘radar dish’ things to put around her neck. It will allow her to eat and drink but not dig or bit or lick at wounds, shaved patches, etc. Maybe your vet has one you can borrow as well.
Licking the shaved patch won’t necessarily hurt her, but as you say, if it’s inflamed, go get the ‘radar dish’ in a size that fits her.
It’ll protect the wound and allow you to put some antibiotic ointment on it to heal faster since she won’t be able to lick or scratch it off.

ask the vet how long it will take to heal and u could try putting a cone to avoid her from touching it at all
She may have something called clipper burn, which is really irritating and can cause pretty bad infections if left untreated. Best thing to do is take your cat back to the vet & they will give you something to put on it.
I always use neosporin on both of my cats. They don’t care for the taste of it. They will lick it for a second, then quit, if you get the kind that has the pain reliever in it, it gives them less of an urge to want to lick the area. And the ointment wont hurt the cat if ingested.
You can try a funnel collar, a bitter cream or spray ie. bitter apple, or a bandage over the bald patch for a while.
Edit: Neosporin is a pretty good idea too!
