wow! so they can get off insulin? I am new at this and still learning. I hope I am giving the injections properly. Sometimes she growls when I do it, and sometimes no. Am I doing something wrong?
This is the best video. I posted one on giving my cat his shot… but it wasn’t quite as snazzy as this one. Our vet doesn’t have us testing his blood sugar at home or feeding him any special food. We just always have dry food down and plenty of water.
Cute video, thanks for posting!
oops sorry, I see now that testing was mentioned at the end! I was expecting to see it before he got his shot at the beginning.
that’s strange, my first post didn’t show up, but my second one did! Sorry for the confusion.
wanted to say thank you! This helped when i found out one of my cats was diabetic. the cat food md really helped. it is expensive, but worth it. helped bring his levels prrrfect!
Any dry food will cause a cat who is diabetic to stay diabetic. Switch him to any low carb wet food, (save your money on m/d) home test and give insulin only as needed… and your baby might very easily not need insulin anymore. I know- because mine did!
This is a great video, I noticed how he was walking too, and was glad to see it has resolved. My cat was just diagnosed Sunday, and I’ve successfully injected her twice. I hope she gets to be as accepting as yours but she’s very skittish about any type of restraint. I bought the Royal Canin Diabetic diet (wow, talk about expensive!) but in comparing it to the Purina Naturals, the nutrition does not seem to be that different, approximately 2% variance in crude fiber, protein and fat.
I’m feeding her 1.5 oz real tuna about 30 minutes prior to each shot, and still allowing her to free feed because we are a multi-cat household too. She’s not overweight, her diabetes is a result of steroid use to control her allergies. Am I too off track here?
Wet Food (canned) low carb is the only way to go. Look at the ingredients in W/D dry, and wet. Do you know what you are feeding your cats? We can debate this all day, but dry food has a high fat, high carb, content, not to mention all the other “yucky” goodies that cause your kitty to become a diabetic!
WOAH!!! CORRECTION!!!! 2CC’s is INCORRECT. IT’s more like 0.2CC’s. 2CC’s will put your cat to sleep forever. Please correct this video!!!!
Hi everybody!! It is Ambrosesweet, the maker of this video. I’ve gotten many comments from viewers in the past that I have wrong info in this video. This video was for entertainment purposes only!!!! Do not attempt to believe that people that post stuff to youtube actually are experts or or know what they are talking about! And for those thinking they are clever and call me stupid, READ THE OTHER COMMENTS before you think you’re genius and get all self-righteous. For all others, enjoy…
cute cats!!
My cat was just diagnosed a week ago and also had DKA which is thankfully subsiding. Although cc’s *was* incorrect I think this video was adorable. It was the first time I’ve laughed, really laughed, in 5 days!
Thanks.
Screw the jerks that felt the need to belittle a creative video intended to show that your cat lives a very normal and happy life with diabetes
I had a diabetic kitty…and because of that, when they said “2 ccs” I heard “2 units”. The syrringe being used wouldn’t even GO to 2 ccs, so there is no way that they would overdose their little boy on insulin.
This was a great video about how normalized life with a diabetic kitty can be..
My Clio always ate the pet smart Authority food…and the other cat was fed the same. I found that he did just as good on that, and it was WAY cheaper and easier to get than Purina DM.
why are some of you so critical .. my goodness. If anyone takes medical advice from youtube anyway WITHOUT consulting there DOCTOR OR VET first needs to get help. It was a really cute video and same with a comment posted earlier i actually laughed watching it.
Diabates FTW!
My kitty has diabetes too…its nice to see there are more people willing to take care of their cats..even with diabetes. Your video made me giggle because my day is pretty much the same … its worth it for sure.
It’s just a shame that pet foods are the cause for this to begin with. All your babies are precious.
I noticed the cc mistake as well my daughter is diabetic but I could see by looking at the unites syringe that it was units, someone could kill there cat by doing this and not reading the comment side, and for those of you that son’t understand diabetes it is not always food that caused this, a virus or autoimmune s disorder can build antibodies that can attack the cells that produce insulin like type one diabetes totally unrelated to type two. very cute video I loved it.
Good to know your feeding all canned.
Thank you for posting this. The video made me much more confident about taking care of our kitty who became diabetic this past May. Followed vet’s directions and your attitude. Kitty is off insulin now and doing great!
No more insulin for Merry? that’s wonderful. My cat Chaos is on a similar treatment, only he gets 2.5 units, and he’s doing great, but he’s been on insulin for almost a year now and I don’t see him getting off it.
@ambrosesweet thank you so much for this video! My cat , Lucky has diabetes. He is on Lantus Insulin and diabetic food. Marriadoc is so cute. Dont worry when you said 2ccs of insulin i knew you ment 2 units. Thank you!
Thanks for your video – it was really helpful to see another family with three cats manage when one is diabetic. Miles (who looks a lot like Merry!) was diagnosed a few months ago but he is still not properly regulated, so I’m trying to learn all I can so we can get him on the road to recovery. Thanks!~
