My cat licks cinder blocks and bricks. Why does she do this?

My mom thinks it’s because the cat isn’t getting enough of something in her diet. We feed her the Purina Indoor Formula dry cat food. She eats it with no problem but she goes up to bricks and cinder blocks and licks them. Any ideas why?

She might be getting trace minerals off of the stones.
There are many more complete and more nutritious diets available for your cat. Look for something without by-products, artificial presevatives or corn (not well-digested for cats) If you call your vet or a pet store, you can ask them to recommend an all-natural premium pet food. There are many choices ranging from not much more expensive than grocery-store-brands to ridiculous. You can choose what will work best for your cat based on nutritional content and cost.
If you do change your cat’s food, do it slowly (start by mixing only a ty bit in, and slowly increasing the amount over several weeks) to prevent a hunger strike or digestive symptoms (diarrhea).
Good luck to you and your kitty!
to annoy you.
some cats are weird.
she should be fed canned food, mostly meat. i like "instinct" brand.
sounds like the cat just likes the feel of cinder blocks on her tongue.like the first person said, cats are weird. they all have different personality’s.i dint think there is anything wrong with her/him just a awkward behavior.now if your cat was constantly slamming it’s head into said brick, then i would say something is wrong..i wouldn’t worry too much.
if they are old bricks and cinderblocks she is licking them because of the sodium (salt) deposits left by the rain most animals like the taste of salt (thats why some deer hunters put out salt blocks to attract deer) so dont worry my cat does it to it wont hurt them so it really isn’t anything to worry about.
Your cat may like the feel of the bricks on her tongue, but my guess is she probably likes the salt the cinder blocks and bricks contain.
if somebody handled the bricks it will more than likely have some type of salty oil on it. They smell very well, so it could have something on it they smell that smells good to them. Most cats like to lick plastic bags as well because there are fish oils in the plastic made into the bags so it has to be something she smells. Its not health risky.
First, try looking at the ingredients on your cat food, if the FIRST ingredient is a real meat: chicken, salmon…etc. it’s a good food. If the first ingredient is a by-product, corn substance, etc, you need to switch foods.
The excessive licking of metal, walls, bricks could be a deficit in a mineral their food is missing or it could be a number of conditions, including diabetes mellitus, hyperadrenocorticism, liver disorders, hyperthyroidism, kidney failure, seizure activity and gastrointestinal disorders. Given the number of conditions that this behavior can occur in conjunction with, it may be
just an unusual habit or it may be that it is a non-specific response to a variety of illnesses.
If still worried, try calling your local vet and ask them what they think and give them any other symptoms he/she may be showing.
