If it is a very young kitten it may have been weaned (taken form the mother) too early. Kneading behavior is done by kittens to stimulate milk flow from the mom’s teats. The kitten may be hungry or it may just be happy. Try feeding it…
Your kitten is just playing around, my older cat does that too, it’s normal.
you say the kitten is licking the comforter? Could she be nursing on the fabric? I got a kitten at 6 weeks and he kneaded my neck, and licked my ear lobe, neck, he was actually latching on to my skin and nursing. I let him do it until he got bigger and his claws hurt me. It seems like your kitten is simply comforting herself. I am pretty sure she is nusring on the fabric.
Kittens need a certain amount of sucking. Anything soft and fuzzy will remind the kitten of momma and the kitten will go into the knead and suck routine. It is comforting to her. I guess it’s like when human babies suck their thumbs. Will it go away as she gets older? Maybe not. My cat Butch would suck and knead on anything soft and fuzzy or just soft or just fuzzy. Mostly on any sweater I was wearing. Since I didn’t know where that tongue had been I tried to discourage him, but not much worked. He had his own fuzzy blanket, but he wanted a warm human behind it. He was taken from his mother much too early so we thought maybe that was why.
My cat also does that to really soft things, still does that at age 5 – and I leave her to do it cause it seems to comfort her.
maybe there is something about your comforter that gives it a feel of secureness. it is normal for cats to like to nead things.
Hope this helps
